Sunglint on the Alabama Waterway

.In this June 26, 2023, photograph extracted from the International Space Station, direct sunlight shines off the smooth waters of the Alabama Waterway in a sensation called sunglint. When capturing on film Earth, rocketeers typically take advantage of sunglint's tendency to boost the comparison between water areas and also neighboring property areas. In the 1960s, the Alabama River was actually hindered, creating Dannelly Storage tank (the huge shining region at center left). Development of the dam also reared water levels upriver. This caused flooding at several factors along the stream. These flooded zones are traditional of floodplains-- the low, flat locations quickly next to larger streams. In this picture, disaster area appear as rough, intense shapes expanding off of the stream, like at Gee's Bend (facility bottom).Text Credit: Justin Wilkinson.Photo Credit History: NASA/Woody Hoburg.
